  1. What date is my age taken from?
    Age is taken as at 31 December 2014, except for school competitions where age is taken as at 1 January in the year of the competition i.e. 2014.

  2. When will entries open?
    July 2014

  3. When do entries close?
    Online entries close at 5pm on Friday 29 August 2014. You can still register on Saturday 30 August (2:30pm - 4:30pm) and Sunday 31 August (8am - 9am) at Taupo Motorsport Park. Please note that a late fee of $20 will be charged on all events, in addition to the entry fee, from Sunday 17th of August 2014. 

  4. How much does it cost to enter?

  5. What will the course be like?
    All of the events take in the Taupo Motor Racing Track for both the run and the cycle sections. The track is smooth and fast but surprisingly undulating. There are a number of switchbacks. For those events that venture outside of the park the road does climb on the way out.

  6. Do I have to be a member of TRIBE or a Club to be eligible for a medal?
    No, all you have to be is a NZ Citizen/Resident (non-NZ citizens/residents are not eligible) but we strongly recommend signing up to become a member of TRIBE, NZ’s online Triathlon Community – the site for all triathlon events in NZ, sporting updates, club and coaching information and special offers including priority event entry.

  7. What is the refund policy?
    There are no refunds under any circumstances. Please see the Terms and Conditions of Entry below.

  8. Can I use a mountain-bike?
    Mountain-bikes are allowed in all events.

  9. Where do I wear my race number? 
    Individuals are given three race numbers; one to pin on the front of your shirt or wear on your race belt; one to place on the front of your helmet; and one to put on the seat post of your bike. Teams will receive one each of these numbers; one for each team member. Race numbers must be worn at all times.

  10. Are the roads closed?
    A road is never closed. There are no road closures for any of our events, therefore you will be sharing the road with other users and normal road rules apply. All roads are open to traffic. It is important that participants keep vigilant throughout the entire event, cycle safely, and abide with all New Zealand Road Rules. Even though we have private use of the track, there will be event and medical vehicles permitted on the course.

  11. What is drafting? Am I allowed to do it?
    Drafting is when an athlete cycles in the slipstream of another athlete thus gaining an advantage. All events are non-drafting which means you cannot draft during any of the events. Full details on the drafting rules can be found in the Tri NZ Competition Rules

  12. What are the details about the Prizegiving, Suzuki Swift draw and other special local offers?
    For all detail see the Participant Notes. Note that all participants receive 2 for 1 access to DeBretts Thermal Pools from 29 August until 3 October. Participants also receive 2 for 1 access to the AC Baths and Hot Pools 29 -31 August (event weekend).   13. Are there specific rules for the Schools event?
    Yes - The Schools events are run under the Tri NZ Competition Rules which you can download as per question 11 however there is a specific rule which applies to schools only which is a follows:  In School Championships, all wheels used must have a rim depth of no greater than 45mm and a minimum of 12 spokes.  No wheel covers are permitted. 

  14. I am racing in the age group U19 event, are there any specific rules that apply to me?
    Yes - Due to selection for the World Championships the following rule applies to all U19 (except Elite) and all school entrants:  All wheels used must have a rim depth of no greater than 45mm and a minimum of 12 spokes.  No wheel covers are permitted 

  15. What are the Terms and Conditions of event entry?

    Terms and Conditions of Entry
    Whilst every endeavour will be made to ensure my safety, I acknowledge that a competitive Duathlon involves the real risk of serious injury or even death from various causes including exertion, equipment failure, dehydration, collisions or incidents involving other competitors, spectators, other road users and/or vehicles, aspects of the course or bad weather conditions and other causes. 
    I understand I should not enter or participate in this event unless I have trained appropriately and had any health concerns checked by a medical practitioner.

    By participating I accept all risks necessarily flowing from my participation which could result in loss of life or permanent injury.

    Accordingly I release all persons or corporations associated directly or indirectly with the conduct of the event, including sponsors, from all claims, demands and proceedings arising out of my participation, and I hereby indemnify them against all liability (including liability for their own negligence and negligence of others) for all injury, loss or damage arising out of or connected with my participation in this event. This release shall include all sponsors, Triathlon NZ Inc, and their respective managers, officers, agents, contractors, employees and volunteers including medical and paramedical people appointed for the event, the owners, licensees and occupiers of land upon which this event or any part of the event is conducted, any statutory body or local authority having control over any land upon which is involved directly or indirectly with the event in any manner whatsoever and the event organisers. This release and indemnity continues forever and binds my heirs, executors, personal representatives and assigns.

    I consent to receiving any medical treatment that the event organisers think desirable during or after the event.

    I consent to Duathlon Series sponsors using my image, name and likeness before, after or during the event for event promotion, broadcasting or reporting in any media in relation to the Duathlon Series or for the sponsor's own commercial or other purposes for the duration of their sponsorship.

    I consent to Triathlon NZ Inc having unlimited rights to my image, likeness or names for promotional purposes.

    I acknowledge that safety precautions undertaken by the event organiser are a service to me and other competitors but are not a guarantee of safety.
    I acknowledge that I am personally responsible for my personal possessions at the event. I acknowledge that my registration is not transferable to other people, and that if the event is cancelled my entry fee is not refundable unless otherwise announced by Triathlon NZ Inc.

    I ac
    knowledge that I will inform Triathlon NZ Inc on my registration form of any illness from which I might suffer that might affect my performance or be relevant if medical treatment is needed

    I acknowledge and agree these events are raced under the Triathlon NZ rules which include the Sports Anti-Doping rules (2007), and declare that I have read and understood those rules.

    I acknowledge that by reason of circumstance beyond the control of the event organiser it may become necessary to change the format of the event, and if that occurs, I consent to the changes and I agree that each and every one of the conditions set out herein shall apply to the changed event.

    I agree to abide by the Triathlon NZ Inc refund and transfer policy. I hereby certify that I am eighteen years or older or I have parental/guardian consent to compete if I am younger than 18 years. I hereby certify that I am 10 years old as of 31 December in the year of competition for the Short Events.

    I agree to my name and contact details being included on the event database which may be used for commercial purposes by Triathlon NZ Inc or any of its sponsors. This may include informing me or contacting me about events, products, brands, special offers, publications and other promotions in which Triathlon NZ Inc or any of its sponsors think I might be interested in (including via email or other electronic communication).  Triathlon NZ Inc will keep my personal information secure and hold it in a database in accordance with the Privacy Act 1993.

    I acknowledge that I have to be present at the prize giving's to receive cash or spot prizes. 

    I acknowledge that I have been accepted as a participant in the event on the basis that I have accepted all of the above terms and conditions.
