Gibbs Hill Challenge 2015 - Sunday August 9

A duathlon starting from Takaka Primary School and involving a 23km road cycle to Wainui car park, then into the Abel Tasman National Park for a stunningly scenic 21km run around the coastal track back to Wainui car park, finishing with the reverse of the cycle leg back to Takaka Primary School. (See map for details of run course).
Do as an individual or as a team which can comprise of 2 - 5 members. For the run, transition places are Whariwharangi and/or Totaranui, and the cycle legs can be done by the same person or by two people.

Registrations:
Because we have a limit imposed of 70 (in the National Park), there will be no ‘on the day’ entries and with the help of our great volunteers, we have kept the entry fee low, so payment will need to be made with registration and no refunds will be given (try not to injure yourself or get sick before the event!).
Entry fees: $15 for individuals    $30 for teams
We expect to get to the 70 max and have a waiting list. Registrations are now open.
Want to compete but can’t/don’t want to do it all yourself, don’t know anyone else? Contact Ricky or Corina Ward ph 03 525 8113 or email rcward@xtra.co.nz and they will attempt to help you find someone. Registration will still be your responsibility.
Donation to St John: This year we wish to help our local branch of St John with their fundraising appeal for their new building which will house the training centre and ambulance base. So we are asking all competitors to give an extra $5 donation each which will be payable on the day at registration. We hope you will all help us here.

Check in will be at the Takaka Primary School Hall from 7.45am with the race starting at 9.15am utilising a rolling start for the first 2km. The lead car will precede the first cyclist/s all the way to Wainui car park.

Pre race briefing (compulsory for ALL competitors) will take place at 8.45am.

All supporters vehicles will need to leave immediately after the briefing and for safety reasons, we ask that you head directly to Wainui and not stop en route to cheer on your cyclist. We would like you to be parked and clear of the road before the first cyclists arrive. Remember, the quicker cyclists are doing it in 40mins and it will take you 30mins to get there and park!!!
A tail end Charlie will help out with any problems.
At Wainui we will have a parking area available off road to help ease congestion there (courtesy of Tui Community). If you do need to park on the roadside, then please only park on the left as you come into Wainui and BE CAREFUL for cyclists when opening doors. The road is very narrow.
You will need to have available adequate clothing/drinks/food, especially for the run section. Golden Bay Search & Rescue will be monitoring checkpoints along the way but will help in emergencies only.
They will have the right to stop anyone from continuing if they feel your safety may be compromised. There will be some water available at Whariwharangi and Totaranui.
The run will be in a clockwise direction - Wainui - Whariwharangi - Totaranui - Gibbs Hill - Wainui.
For those of you without a support crew, we will be able to take gear from the start to Wainui car park and back if needed. You will need to provide a suitably named bag. Please note though that the gear coming back to the race finish may not be there until around prize giving time. Gear can be left safely at the Hall while you are out on the course.

Rules:
As you will be riding on an open road normal road rules will apply at all times.
When running the track, please be considerate of other track users and do not leave any rubbish behind. Take it out with you.
In the event of injury to another competitor, please stop and render assistance as required.
Entrants under 18 years do so at their parents discretion.

The Takaka Primary Home and School will have a BBQ and drinks available at the finish (yes, you will need some money!), please support them.
