The final series times have been calculated, here they are

Sunday May 23

A great final race with some intense competition. Here's the provisional results: Click here

These will change late in the week as comments come in. In the meantime, here's the story on the Sportzhub website, click here

Cumulative times also need updating, they'll be here also in a day or two (the race organiser is in recovery mode and going to bed early).

Don't forget to check out the great photos by Martin Bennett on www.3rd-eye.co.nz

Sunday May 9
There have been a few corrections to the results - more in the nature of minor tweaks. We'll put an update online later in the week, just in case anyone else wants to comment on the times.
In the meantime, here's the story which was in today's Nelson Mail, also on Sportzhub, click here

Thanks to Brooks and Shoe Clinic, we have 20 high quality long sleeved Nightlife training tops for the winners of the various age groups. These will be great high-visibility tops with a retail value of $120 to wear over the winter while you're out running or biking. Tineli has done the artwork  for the tops, so they can be printed before race three. There'll be a photo online tomorrow so you can see what they'll look like. Who will win them? Cumulative times after race two have been calculated and there are very few age groups where there is likely to be much change, although you never know what may happen in race three. Sunday May 9
A beautiful day at Rabbit Island, 142 starters. The start was delayed while repairs were made to the course markings, which had been carefully changed by some sick person in the week prior. Signs and tapes had been moved, the signs stapled into place with a large staple gun to indicate completely different routes. This was no random taking down of arrows. Thanks to some hard work by Jon Linyard, the course was repaired, Jon immediately going on to place third in the long course, behind Cliff Bowman and Kim Hogartth. Josie Wilcox was unchallenged in the women's race, placing sixth overall. Claire Erasmus and Frankie Kersten came out on top in the short race. To further add to our woes, the race timing file was corrupt, so the results were done manually, then input into the programme post-race. There are a few gaps in the run/bike splits, which we'll try to fill in later, but everyone has what looks like an accurate finish time. PLease give it a check for obvious errors.

Sunday April 25
A great start to the series, marred by some tinkering to the course by persons unknown, which caused some problems with navigation. The sign just after the drop was reversed at some stage during the race, then corrected by Gaye Evans, who recognised it wasn't right. We don't know who took the stake out of the ground and changed it round, but it was only in the wrong place for a short time - long enough to throw many cyclists off course. If you feel this cost you extra time and can give a reasonable estimate, we'll make time adjustments, but only after a few people have reported in so there's some consensus.

The results make allowances for the three runners in the short race who completed 3km (instead of 2km) in the opening lap when the marshall failed to show on the appointed corner. There was also a bunch of rider who took a short cut, not sure where, but in looking at comparative times they seem to have cut 14 minutes off their times and this has been added back.

There was also some sabotage at the far end of the course resulting in some riders taking the coastal route, which was softer, but had marginal effect on times.

It's a good time to print a copy of the map at the link below and make sure you have a feel for the course for race two.

Friday April 23
The course will get its final marking tomorrow morning and will be as near as possible to foolproof for race day.

Friday April 2
Jon Linyard has designed a challenging new course, with many of the trails used in the past as well as some interesting new terrain. The course was marked out today, using red arrows for the run course and yellow for the bike course.

You'll find the run course starting at the south-eastern corner of Conifer Park and the bike course starting to the left, just inside the entrance to Conifer Park.

The course is available for you to use during weekends. On race day there'll be additional marking and tapes, but for now you'll need to pay attention so you don't go astray. In the new part of the course, at just past the 8km mark, you'll find spaced yellow arrows, but you may need to make your own course. As more people use it, the preferred options will become apparent and after race one it'll be like a super-highway.

Just over three weeks to race one. Time to get training.
